The Role

Do you want to build on your Military Leadership skills in the civilian sector? If your answer is yes, then the Facilities Internship may be right for you.The Amazon Operations Undergrad Internship Program is looking for high potential candidates who served in the Armed Forces as Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Petty Officers who are currently seeking their Bachelor’s degrees with a graduation date between December 2017 and Spring 2018.

As an Assistant Maintenance Manager Intern you will lead and/or interact with a team of facilities and cross-functional associates to create a safe and efficient working environment in one of Amazon’s fulfillment centers. Ensuring smooth processes at your Site will directly impact the ability of our Operation’s team to get product to our customers. Additionally, during your internship you will dive into Standard Work, Innovation and Continuous Improvement through an intern project. Most projects are rooted in process improvement and in the past have included creating operator based preventative maintenance initiatives, equipment performance and efficiency statistical analyses, and maintenance process mapping. During your internship with Amazon you will have visibility into one of the world’s most complex supply chain networks. You will see what it takes to run a facility that can ship a micro-chip to London and a canoe to Japan. You will have the opportunity to interact with Vice Presidents and other senior leaders, giving you the opportunity to learn from some of the best and brightest in the industry.


Your key responsibilities may include (but are not limited to the following):

  • Owning, deep diving for data to support a recommendation, and driving resolution for a technical engineering or maintenance project
  • Leading informational pre-shift standup discussions with both exempt and non-exempt Amazon associates
  • Seeking out information and data among cross-functional organizations (Safety, Finance, Quality, etc.) and working with those groups to arrive at either a recommendation or resolution to your individual project
  • Traveling to similar sites to gather and share best practices in your individual project study
  • Communicating effectively with both exempt and non-exempt teammates to collaborate on effective solutions in your individual study

Program Quick Facts:

  • Term: 10 weeks
  • Benefits: Competitive Salary, Relocation and Housing Assistance.
  • Hours: You may be working a 4-day, 10 hour shift or a 5-day, 8 hour shift depending on your location. This could include a weekend day.
  • Opportunity: An offer for full time employment may be given after the internship.
  • Locations: Locations: The position could be located in a Fulfillment Center, Sort Center, or other operations nationwide This position will likely not be based out Seattle.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of active duty or reserves military service
  • Excellent military record, including level of responsibility and leadership experiences.
  • Currently working towards a bachelor's degree with a graduation date between December 2017 and June 2018
  • Willingness to relocate for the summer
  • Willingness to work weekends and/or overnight shifts
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • You are working towards a bachelors in a technical engineering discipline (Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil).
  • You have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
  • You enjoy analytical work and using data to provide thought-provoking and workable solutions. Data is what you look to when given a problem to solve.
  • You typically volunteer to lead projects and help your team achieve goals. You have a track record of taking ownership and driving results.
  • You have the ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment and when given a deadline, you know how to motivate yourself and meet it.
  • You like adventures and taking risks. You are willing to relocate to any of our sites in the country with the assistance provided.

  • Lifting/moving material up to 49 pounds each.
  • Bending, lifting, stretching and reaching both below the waist and above the head.
  • Frequent walking in the building and around area; facilities are over a quarter mile in length.
  • Standing/walking for up to 10-12 hours.
  • Ascending/descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation.
